What kind of Books Should You Read?

Hey student! In this post, we are going to talk about the importance of reading books in English and what kind of books you should read in English!

WHY READ IN ENGLISH?

Reading will allow you to see grammar and vocabulary in context.  The more you read in English the more contact you will have with vocabulary and correct sentences. At some point, there will be sentences and words you will automatically know, or instinctively know because reading on a consistent basis will help you achieve that.

THINK IN ENGLISH

Reading can also help you develop the habit of thinking in English. When you are reading something in English, you are temporarily leaving your native language aside, especially if you are reading mentally. This is a great practice if you want to think in English

WHAT BOOKS ARE BETTER FOR YOU?

Knowing what books are better for you will depend on two important factors:

  • Your English Level
  • Your Goals

1. Improve Your General English

If you want to improve your everyday English and general vocabulary, I recommend you follow social media influencers who have blogs. In their blogs, they will mostly write about their everyday stuff and this is a great way to improve your vocabulary. The only downside is that it is not appropriate for all levels, because in most blogs, writers are not really worried about English learners, so the level of difficulty may be high.

2. If you have NEVER read in English

If you have NEVER read in English, I recommend you start with graded books. These are books that have been specially written for English learners.

3. If you are a Pre-intermediate or Intermediate Speaker

If you are a pre-intermediate or intermediate speaker who wants a challenge, I recommend you read personal development books. It is a win-win, because you will learn something useful and improve your English at the same time.

4. If you are a very BUSY person!

If you are always on the run and can’t have much time for reading long texts and articles or blog posts, I have a website recommendation where you can find really short articles in English for you to read. I will leave the link in the descriptions
